A friend recommended me this book “The first billion is the hardest” by T. Boone Pickens. For the ones that do not know T. Boone. He is a legendary figure in the business world. Known as the “Oracle of Oil” because of his uncanny ability to predict the direction of fuel prices, he built Mesa Petroleum, one of the largest independent oil companies in United States, from a $2,500 investment.
His book tries to go over his live, his up and downs through the energy business, and conclude with what he believe are the alternatives for United States to become energy independent.
It’s a lot of good information in this book, relate to alternative energy and oil reserves around the world, but the most that grabbed my attention in this book it’s the message that he deliver among lines: “Its all up to you”
Here is a great paragraph of this book that should keep all of us look at things on perspective and keep fighting for what we want:
I also learned that the direction of success is never straight up. Sometimes in the oil business, you have to drill deep to reach your objective. If that fails, you reach a point where you think all is lost and there is nothing there. Most people, both in business in life, surrender. As a result, they fall short of their dreams, opportunities, and potential. I learned that if you never give up, if you push through the resistance and keep driving for what you ant, you will ultimately achieve rewards beyond any you had hoped for. Because down deep, just beyond the hard, tough spot we all have found ourselves in, there awaits the opportunity to become stronger, more successful, and more fulfilled than you have ever imagined. Never, never, never give up. (The first billion is the Hardest, T. Boone pag.61)
